Football

The football team finished the year with a record of 4-6, winning both of their consolation games to close out their season. They will be bidding farewell to five seniors this year: Collin West, Ben Caron, Kaden James, Jacob Rice, and Javion Cabrera. These seniors lifted their team through a physically brutal season, with Caron leading the Hawks in receiving yards (105), blocked passes (5), and interceptions (3). James held the most touchdowns (6) and tackles (55.5) on the team, and West had the most sacks (4). Although these losses will certainly create challenges for next year’s football team, they will have a returning line, and an incredible rusher in Brady Poreda, who carried for 466 yards this year. Our eyes will be on the Redhawks’ pocket and receiving core to see if they can capitalize on more potential time in the pocket for longer passing plays.

Girls Volleyball

Volleyball landed themselves in the 6th seed of the States Tournament this year and capitalized well on it. They fought their way to the State Quarterfinals, losing to the higher-seeded Joseph Case. At the end of seasons, the focus can shift to the group of seniors that will be leaving a team, and who will be left for next year as the new veterans. For this squad, there are only 6 of the 16 varsity players that will be returning, with an astonishing 10 seniors graduating from the program. It will surely be an early test of new head coach Courtney Parent, but the deep Western Mass and States runs bode well for the continued success of Frontier’s girls’ volleyball program.

Boys Soccer

The boys’ soccer team finished their regular season drawing even with South Hadley for the Moriarty Conference title, becoming co-champions with them after two ties against each other in a row. They were knocked out of Western Mass early by a strong Chicopee team but had one of the most exhilarating runs in States in recent memory. An extra-time winner from Will Reading set the Hawks up for a tough game against the 3rd-seeded Pittsfield in the Round of 16. The game was a 3-3 tie in regulation and extra time, and the Redhawks pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the States Tournament by beating Pittsfield 4-3 on penalty kicks. They continued the upsets with a 1-0 win over Tyngsburough off a last-second goal from Gus Radner. Their miraculous run ended in the Semifinals where the 2nd-seeded Lynnfield toppled the Redhawks 1-0 in regulation. It may end up being a tough rebuild for this crew, as five key seniors take their final bow, but a young keeper and experienced attackers will be the foundation on which Coach Horton builds.

Girls Soccer

For girls’ soccer, it was overall an impressive debut season for head coach Lauren Sullivan, who is the Redhawks’ third varsity coach in three years. They finished the season with a 14-5 record, winning their conference undefeated and making a short run in the postseason. The Hawks were knocked out in the quarterfinals of Western Mass and the Round of 32 of States, but they maintained an impressive 4-2 win over Carver in the State Prelims. The two senior captains of this girls’ soccer team will be the only seniors leaving this year, leaving behind a group ready to build on their success from this year with many of the same players.

Field Hockey

One of the most dominant teams at Frontier this year had one of the deepest runs in the postseason. Field hockey won the Western Mass title for the third time in three years, all of those wins coming against Greenfield. Their 14-2-2 record seeded them 4th in Division IV, and they fought all the way to the State Semifinals. There, they faced the top-seeded Uxbridge, who beat them 5-0. Despite a monumental season, it might be more difficult for this team to return next year to this level of dominance. Losing 5 key seniors, including a main forward, three starting defenders, and a phenomenal goalie, will prove to be a good challenge for longtime Coach Mahar. Despite some floating uncertainty, the biggest question is whether will we see the Redhawks in the Western Mass finals to compete for a fourth title in a row in 2026.

Boys Cross Country

The boys rounded out their season placing 9th in the States meet, with Evan Hedlund and Luke Howard leading the way, placing 6th and 9th, respectively. The Hawks also won their league title with an 11-2 record and placed 3rd in the Western Mass meet. This young team will continue to have success in the coming years, especially if their younger runners continue to improve on consistent trajectories.

Girls Cross Country

The girls placed 15th in their States meet, led by Sylvie DiBartolomeo, who placed 17th individually. An undefeated league title and 5th place at Western Mass rounded out the 2024 season for the Hawks, and with three freshmen running in both Western Mass and States, we’ll be sure to see this team back in contention next year.
