The Frontier football team came into this season with a young squad and several new players. A lineup that seemed to promise some hope was shattered in their first game against the Lunenburg Blue Knights. Lineman Javion Cabrera suffered a dislocated shoulder just a few minutes into the game, and after two weeks of being in limbo, it was determined he was out for the rest of the season, and the year. Other injuries in their games have caused concern for many aspects of Frontier’s offense and defense; Brady Poreda, Jaxon Spearance, Jack Phillips, and Jacob Rice have all missed a game or more due to various reasons, most relating to injury. Linebacker Levi Pickert will also be out with a broken collarbone for the season. Beyond the injuries, however, the team has struggled offensively, scoring only two touchdowns in three games. Currently, the Redhawks have a 0-3 record after their 18-0 loss to Lunenburg, who is a division above Frontier, a 36-7 loss against Franklin Tech, and a 30-6 loss against Greenfield.
Girls Volleyball
A team with plenty to prove had a rough start to the year, going 1-3 in their first four games. They then flipped the scales and went 5-1 in their next six games, bringing their overall record to 6-4. Good enough for some, but for the team that has won 18 Western Mass titles in a row, it sparks plenty of concern from the fans. This is Coach Courtney Parent’s first year as head coach of the girl’s varsity team, but she had several years under the great Sean MacDonald. Additionally, the varsity squad is made up of 10 seniors, all of whom played last year and in years prior under MacDonald. Despite all that they have going for them from previous years, their defensive shortcomings have been showing on the court, and have been costing them points, sets, and games. They have the last half of the season to find themselves, but the 18-year title streak is certainly in jeopardy.
Boys Soccer

This team came into the season as confident as ever, despite losing 10 seniors last year, as well as their starting goalie, Owen Babb, who transferred to Deerfield Academy over the summer. Despite their massive losses, this varsity squad has risen above almost every challenge thrown their way so far, and they stand on top of their conference with a 7-1-1 record, the loss being to Easthampton. They aim to win their conference as they did last year, and hit the treble, as senior Captain Ben Cachiguango calls it: the conference title, Western Mass title, and State title. The big test for this elite group comes on October 7th at home, when they face off against the Hampshire Raiders, the only team who bested them last year. But for a team with barely any weak links and one of the best backlines in the division, the future looks very bright indeed.
Girls Soccer

Not much was expected from the girl’s soccer team after a mediocre last season, where they failed to qualify for the Western Mass tournament with a losing record. But with their new coach, Lauren Sullivan, and a young but experienced group of players, they’ve set out on an incredible run to start their season. 8-1, on top of their division, and allowing eight goals in the whole season tells anyone all they need to know about the caliber of this team. Led by seniors Claire McFarland and Josie Fosnot, the Redhawks seem to be making a surprise run at the Western Mass title and currently hold the second-best record out of any varsity team at Frontier. But for anyone who has gotten the chance to see any of their games, this news will come as no surprise at all.
Field Hockey
The reigning Western Mass champions seem bound to appear again at the end of this season, boasting not only a veteran defensive line and goalie but also several transfers from Pioneer. They also are the highest divisionally ranked Frontier team, placed 3rd in Division IV. A very confident team that thrives around and inside the circle is led as usual by Coach Missy Mahar, who’s helped to give the team a strong start at 6-1-1, losing to Longmeadow only by one goal. With Greenfield taking what seems to be a rebuilding year, we’ll have to wait and see who will rise through the power rankings to attempt to dethrone the Redhawks at the end of this season.
Golf
Led by junior Ryan Cetto and senior Camden Skiffington, Frontier’s golf team is looking very strong this year. With a big win against Hampshire midway through the month, they’ve moved into first place in their conference and look to grab the title with their 9-3 record. Shooting under 40 has become a regular feat for the leaders on this team, an impressive accomplishment that has not only won matches but boosted morale on the team through the roof. A shot at the Western Mass title seems likely, but with the whole second half of the season to go, nothing’s set in stone quite yet.
Boys Cross Country
Another strong start to the season for Frontier’s traditionally dominant sport. The boys are currently with a 5-1 record. They lost their meet against PVCICS in close fashion, with a tie-breaking sixth runner. Led by three strong seniors, they hope to win the league and will have several runners contending in divisional and state meets towards the end of the season.
Girls Cross Country
The girls’ team has been even stronger than the boys, boasting a record of 6-0, the best varsity record in the school. A team fairly older than the boys, the girls’ squad will be looking for similarly dominant results in the postseason. With plenty of high hopes from last season, it’s starting to become a question of if anyone will be able to topple the undefeated Redhawks instead of when.
